Are straws which you re-use safe?

Very much so! As long as they are kept clean they are very safe to use. The drinking ones we sell do not contain BPA or any other toxins and are plastic free. For children, you can get silicon topped or bamboo. Most come with a brush to clean thoroughly.

What are the best non plastic drinking straws?

Drinking straws again come in many forms. You can get silicone, smoothie, bamboo, reusable plastic ones, and stainless steel metal straws. Some are bent, some are straight, some you get a cleaning brush, some you don’t. Again, we have chosen our favourites for their eco and ethical as well as environmental credentials. All of which look great coming out of a mojito filled mason jar.

What is the best alternative to plastic?

Any other drinking one which does not contain plastic! We like stainless steel ones as they are so sturdy. You can get silicon tipped metal drinking ones for children or even natural wheat ones you can eat afterwards. Any BPA free is a great alternative item.

Why Stainless Steel Metal is Better

From saying no to pet plastic bottles and switching away from disposable paper cups there are many simple changes we can make to lead a more planet-friendly lifestyle. Saying no to plastic straws is another easy green choice to make to reduce plastic waste. Plastic ones contain Bisphenol A (BPA), a harmful chemical found in plastics that mimics the activity of hormones, most commonly oestrogen, which can lead to a number of reproductive disorders and other conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease. Stainless steel is a great option as it is BPA free and is very durable.

BPA Free Kids Choices

Kids love straws and they can be very handy as you transition from sippy cups with little ones. Teaching your children the importance of switching to environmentally friendly products like these is a great way of helping them understand how the decisions they make can affect the environment and about the need to reduce plastic waste, reuse and recycle. Stainless steels straws are also non-toxic so they are better for their health and are perfect for sipping their favourite smoothie or milkshake. You could even try sticking them straight in an orange. Imagine doing that with a plastic straw.

And these aren't just great for children, although they can save a lot of spilt liquids. Straws can be really handy for those with reduced mobility, in particular conditions such as arthritis which make lifting a glass and drinking difficult or painful. A nice set of stainless steel drinking straws with their own handy cleaning brush could make all the difference to staying hydrated. Unlike paper straws they don't get soggy, they are safe to use with warm drinks, just be careful they aren't too hot, and you know you are doing your bit to keep plastic out of landfills.

These are a great example of eco-friendly alternatives for the next generation, less plastic pollution and less pressure on landfills. Your grand-kids will thank you. We have all seen the horrid images on national geographic and this is an easy switch we can all make, without much effort. We at Danu world say, let's be the change today.
