Our mission at Danuworld is all about being a one-stop shop for the ethical consumer and that includes ethical clothing.
Sustainability is key to our ethos, reducing our environmental impact, using recycled materials and choosing ethical trade. So, we love it when we find ethical brands that apply these same principles and put people first.
The fashion industry, including many high street fashion brands and retailers, has come under scrutiny many times for ethical issues such as poor working conditions in factories and the use of child labour, the disposable nature of fashion design and the environmental credentials of clothing fabrics. Leading to the emergence of many ethical clothing brands and a shift in focus towards sustainable fashion.
Meaning mother earth in the language of the Incas, have been practising ethical trading and developing strong and sustainable relationships with their suppliers since they started in the Andean Mountains of South America in 1990. They base their relationships on respect for all links in the supply chain, meaning they use ethically sourced natural products, and pay a living wage to the people who work in their factories. Producing truly sustainable clothing.
All their fair trade garments are handmade, utilising artisan skills, providing much-needed employment and income, mainly subsistence farmers who supplement their income making these beautiful hand knit wool jumpers. They commit to guaranteeing year-round orders to those doing the knitting, ensuring sustainability and nurturing long-term relationships, providing continuous economic and social growth for a large number of people.
Their knitwear designers are constantly coming up with new patterns and each line is made in small batches so you are unlikely to meet someone in the same knit sweater as you. They also use recycled cardboard packaging and labels and re-use packaging when sending out their orders.
Another great benefit is that they donate at least 10% of the profit on all sales to Net4Kids, an international charity working in Nepal, whose mission is to give underprivileged children a better future through sustainable help.
