Why do we need Organic and Natural Haircare?
We need it because the skin on our scalp is the same as the skin on our face.
Natural shampoo, psoriasis shampoo and shampoo bars at Danu World
Many people find their scalp to be flaky and irritated, they turn to a dandruff treatment shampoo but actually, it isn't dandruff that's the issue, the issue is that the skin is reacting to ingredients and harsh chemicals in the shampoo that they are washing their hair in.
These chemicals can wreak havoc with the skin on your face, chest and back if you are washing your hair in the shower.
There has been a shift towards SLS or sodium lauryl sulphate free shampoos and organic shampoo.
Sodium lauryl sulfate is a degreasing and foaming agent. Basically, it traps grease from your hair and scalp and enables you to wash it away. It's an irritant to many people and there are much better natural oils and natural ingredients that can be used in hair care to give great results.
All natural shampoos still use foaming agents that gently cleanse the scalp and hair, you might not get the lather that you are used to, however, you can be sure that your natural shampoo is working to leave your natural oils on your scalp whilst removing grease and pollution from your hair shaft.
Our Essentially Nature range of natural shampoos and conditioners are free from parabens, artificial colours, phthalates, lanolin and sulphates.
We stock the full hair care range from PHB.
Shampoos and conditioners to deal with dry scalp, itchy scalp, damaged hair, oily hair and lank hair. Every one of your hair care problems taken care of with nothing other than natural and organic ingredients, essential oils to perfume and treat your scalp and no harsh preservatives.
If you prefer solid shampoo, we also have the pure chimp super shampoo bar. This gives a wonderfully rich foam but its kind to sensitive skin and scalp. Packed full of Coconut oil to provide moisture to your hair and scalp, avocado and vitamin E nourish and strengthen the hair length and ends. Beer is the surprise ingredient and is added for its volume-boosting effect. Who needs a volumizing shampoo when you can get all of this in one little bar?
Why would I use a shampoo bar over a liquid shampoo?
Solid shampoo is similar to a bar soap. Natural shampoo bars are becoming more popular for many reasons. One reason is the journey to zero waste. It is much more environmentally friendly to use a bar. You can get shampoo bars with little to no packaging and this appeals to many people.
They are great for all hair types and can especially help to regulate oily hair.
They don't take up much space in your wash bag or shower and are more economical than buying a liquid shampoo. An organic shampoo bar can bring benefits such as increased volume, faster-growing hair, reduced dandruff, shinier hair and less frizz. If you have curly hair, you can have more defined curls with better control. Shampoo bars are good for all hair types and hair lengths.
Solid shampoo are usually made from a base of castor oil, olive oil or sunflower oil, lather comes from coconut or botanical oils. Distilled water and even beer can be used to give you a treatment soap for your hair and scalp.
Isn't there a detox period for using a shampoo bar?
Yes, there is. You can help prepare for this period by using a clarifying shampoo to remove product build-up prior to starting with your new bar. A cider vinegar rinse to restore PH to the scalp and if you have hard water, you might want to think about adding a water filter to your shower head.
You must not wash your hair daily. The point of using solid shampoo is to get your hair into its natural state and to use your own natural oils for the condition. Washing daily can cause oily hair or dry hair and healthy hair does not need to be washed daily.
You will have a product build up from silicones and waxes that are added to modern shampoos to give the illusion of shine, all of this builds up on your hair shaft and isn't healthy for you. The apple cider vinegar rinse will help to cleanse that away, a DIY shampoo of sorts! There is a transition when you switch from the chemicals in traditional shampoos to a natural shampoo bar but its worth persevering with.
When you first begin, your hair or scalp may become oily or dry or even switch between the two extremes. You may have increased tangles, or frizz and your hair may feel waxy.
Do you stock natural dry shampoo?
When you don't have time for a full wash and blow dry, our warrior dry shampoo will take care of your hair for you.
Can natural shampoo help with scalp psoriasis?
Scalp psoriasis is a problem for many people along with seborrheic dermatitis. People with psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis find that chemicals in shampoo can really irritate their condition and often the first psoriasis treatment is to switch to shampoo where the active ingredients are natural and organic.
Psoriasis symptoms can be anything from flaky itching and painful scalp to hair loss. Topical steroids can help depending on the types of psoriasis however treatment can only be prescribed by a doctor or dermatologist and often you can be prescribed psoriasis shampoo. The tar shampoos prescribed aren't pleasant to use and medicated shampoos can leave hair dry and lank.
If you are suffering from scalp psoriasis and have found that coal tar or salicylic acid shampoos aren't helping then please give our natural shampoos a try.
Using any of our natural SLS free shampoo and conditioners will leave you with glossy conditioned and rebalanced hair. You won't have those chemical nasties and you are helping to keep our oceans and waterways free from pollution.
